Shields of Paper

If you have a book you want me to read, tell me here. I'll read it and perhaps I'll write about it along with my own books. That or ask me something, it matters not. I like talking to strangers.

Eerie Hurricane Map of the Day: On the left, Hurricane Katrina, circa 2005. On the right, the latest projections for Tropical Storm Isaac. The maps? Seven years apart to the hour. CNN has already sent hurricane expert Anderson Cooper to New Orleans. [thinkprogress]

Anderson Cooper is in New Orleans!? …It’s only an hour and a half drive into heavy storms and possibly death. I think I’ll risk it.
On a serious note, I don’t see what the “eerie” part of that picture is. If you look at where they were each predicted to hit land, it’s a good 100-150 miles apart? As for the shape… Seriously, that’s what hurricanes do. It’s  growing mass of swirling winds and water. Of course it’s going to curve like that and get bigger at the end as it dissipates. Also, Katrina gained mass quickly. Issac is ridiculously steady and it predicted to drop to a Category 1 before it hits. Stop being ridiculous, TDW. But thanks for telling me about Anderson!

YES

Excuse me? EXCUSE ME? Do you seriously think this will accomplish anything? Do you seriously think refusing to donate will HELP? Yes, I absolutely agree BP needs to be paying for this, that they need to clean up their own mess. And they will pay eventually, but at the moment, I think it’s more important to get the mess cleaned up, no matter what way! You think they don’t realize how badly they’ve fucked up the environment? You think they don’t know exactly how much it’s going to ruin their company? They do. Why do you think they’re trying so hard to cover their damn asses?! And not only that, they know they still don’t have to do anything. Because if they won’t pay what they need to, and we stop paying what we can, the federal government will cover the cost. And it may have been said that the people will not need to pay for this disaster, you do realize that the federal tax on gas has already quadrupled from $0.08 to $0.32 a gallon, right? If we don’t help now, all that will happen will be that we end up paying for it anyway through the government.

You know, I hate putting this on my Tumblr. I hate politics and I hate arguing about it. But I seriously doubt you people realize how badly this is affecting life in the gulf. Not just plant and animal life. And I really understand it needs to be saved, I do. the oil has reached to coasts and the marshes. Everything is dying. And those marshes are damn well important! It’s what literally holds the land together and keeps it from eroding away. Yes, protecting the environment is seriously important, but do you also not realize how this will be affecting the people? I live in south Louisiana. There are days I walk outside and I can smell the oil spill because of the wind blowing inland. That’s how close I am. I know many people whose entire lives revolve around fishing, or shimping, or crabbing in the gulf. They can’t do that anymore. They have no more income. If offshore rigging gets banned, for however long, do you realize how many people will lose their jobs? I know people working on oil rigs too, I have for years. Do you think we have the jobs down here to give to thousands of suddenly jobless men and women? Not to mention all the seafood restaurants that will be shutting down because there’s no more seafood in the gulf. And all the smaller businesses that will be closing because they have no more customers simply because people can no longer afford to do anything or go anywhere?

Yes, BP needs to fix this. But if you want to screw them, boycott them. Make sure not a single penny gets to them. Write letters, make phone calls, hold rallies, do whatever you want. But don’t do something as fucking idiotic as to refuse to help clean the gulf. It needs to get cleaned, that’s the priority right now. There’s time to make BP pay, but what the oil spill can do will take exponentially longer to undo.

Louisiana

Me: I have flown kites in a hurricane.
Kyle: I've never been in a hurricane. ;-;
Me: I'm an hour south of New Orleans.
Kyle: Why did you not die? LOL
Me: God loves me because I'm half Cuban? I dunno lol
Kyle: LMFAO Best answer ever
Me: It's my answer to everything.

I am now a legit street preformer!

My friends Tiffany and Ryan came and visited me from Tennessee for a few days. I took them to New Orleans. Today, Tiffany and I did some Swing Dancing in front of a live band and people gave us money!! Now our plan is to live in New Orleans as hobos and dance for food and drink.

My friend has a 4 foot long alligator tied to a tree in her yard.

Sometimes I love living in south Louisiana. But only sometimes.

I’m trying to convince her to keep it leashed up as a guard pet. It’s not working.
